History

Founded in 1975 Gallery Ludorff is one of the world's leading art dealers in German Expressionism, German Impressionism as well as in Post War Abstraction and the work of Selected Contemporary Artists.

Only 10 minutes driving from the airport, the gallery is located in the heart of Düsseldorf at number 22 of the famous "Königsallee", one of Europe's most fashionable shopping boulevards. Within close reach you do not only find some of the most prestigious hotels and shops but you can also easily access such renowned museums as the K20 & K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Museum Kunstpalast, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and the Kunstverein Düsseldorf.

Furthermore we focus our efforts upon presenting the work of the leading German Impressionists Max Liebermann, Lesser Ury, Max Slevogt and Lovis Corinth.

The Post War Abstract Masters Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Fritz Winter, Georg Meistermann, Willi Baumeister and Sam Francis as well as selected Contemporary artists like Gerhard Richter, Klaus Fußmann, Andrew Hemingway, Stefan Szczesny, Karin Kneffel, Robert Metzkes and Cornelius Völker complement our quality portfolio.

Another area of strong expertise is Sculpture. We show from small to large scale the work of important sculptors like Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Georg Kolbe, Ernst Barlach, Ewald Mataré, Reneé Sintenis, Henry Moore, George Rickey and Robert Metzkes.

Exhibitions

In the last 35 years we hosted landmark exhibitions of modern masters of the 20th century such as Emil Nolde, Max Liebermann, Alexej von Jawlensky or Gerhard Richter. Furthermore we regularly show themed group exhibitions including recently purchased masterpieces. On a regular basis we also show the work of contemporary masters such as Klaus Fussmann, Stefan Szczesny and Robert Metzkes. This experience embraces an in-depth knowledge of the art market over the past thirtyfive years, a high degree of academic excellence, a solid grounding in the commercial aspect of art sales and considerable experience in dealing with inheritance tax issues and estates. Furthermore we have built up a widespread network to collectors, art dealers, experts and auctioneers worldwide. The majority of our business is conducted by private treaty and we pride ourselves on trying to find for our clients exactly what they are looking for. Equally, we specialise in helping sellers dispose of works of art discreetly, efficiently and hassle-free. We handle transactions that range from the simple to the complex. We have decades of experience with tax issues and are extremely knowledgeable about import and export regulations governing works of art in the E.E.C. and the U.S.

- Appraisals. We have extensive experience in all types of appraisal work, including insurance valuations, fair market appraisals and estate tax appraisals. We update appraisals on an on-going basis for established clients and welcome the opportunity to carry out new ones for new clients.
