Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous, influential and innovative artists of the 20th century. From the beginning of his career to his old age, he remained keen to experiment and developed his art in ever new phases. He varied his techniques and the materials with which he worked. He painted, drew, made collages and installations, worked with ceramics, drew with light and used various printing techniques. Together with Georges Braque, he is regarded as the inventor of Cubism, the groundbreaking style that brings the omniscience of sculpture to the canvas, thereby sparking a revolution in painting. Picasso himself was inspired by Paul Cézanne and African sculptures and found himself in a lifelong, admiring exchange and competition with Henri Matisse.
