Kunstforum Hermann Stenner:

"Expressionismus in Kunst und Film"

October 15, 2023 – February 25, 2024

Over 100 works, paintings, drawings, graphics, film stills and sequences by 52 visual artists and filmmakers create a kaleidoscope of Expressionism that is still so relevant today. As a cultural revolutionary movement, Expressionism strove to unite art and life and to abolish the separation of the arts in a Gesamtkunstwerk. "Expressionism in Art and Film" illuminates the style across conventional genre boundaries and highlights the reciprocal influences between painting, graphic art, and film.

In Expressionism, social criticism shines through on the one hand, and ideal and dream images on the other. In both painted and moving images, it becomes clear how deeply Expressionism was permeated by the crises of its time and how vociferously it gave expression to the rapid social upheavals. Thus, a varied walk through the 1920s is presented, whose topicality is testified not least by the success of the series "Babylon Berlin" and the annual Film+MusicFest of the Murnau Society in Bielefeld.
