The Kunstmuseum Bern is showing a major exhibition on Katharina Grosse. It is the first exhibition in Switzerland to focus its attention on Grosse's studio works. The large-scale and colorful paintings from the late 1980s to the present make it clear what an important role works on canvas play in the German artist's entire oeuvre.
Central to Grosse's practice is color: she experiments with its physical presence, its sensory and political potentials, and its ability to embody movement. The selection of 42 canvas paintings ranges from her earliest works of the late 1980s to her more recent works.
