Kunstmuseum Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany:
"IM HERZEN WILD: Brücke, Bauhaus, Blauer Reiter"
May 25, 2024 – January 12, 2025
With the major collection presentation ‘IM HERZEN WILD’, the museum's treasures return to the public in new, exciting constellations. For the first time, works of classical modernism from the Municipal Collection will enter into a direct dialogue with works from the Ziegler Collection in the exhibition Brücke - Bauhaus - Blauer Reiter in order to shed light on art at the beginning of the 20th century in various motivic facets.
The focus is on the artists from the Brücke, Bauhaus and Blauer Reiter movements, who were influential in the development of modern painting in Germany. In a journey through the first five decades of the 20th century, the dynamic with which the movements of the time responded to each other is presented and the simultaneity of the different is visualised through the thematic hanging - animals, flowers, portraits, children, landscapes, figures. With 150 paintings, watercolours and prints, the exhibition sheds light on the museum's unique artistic selling point and shows once again how fascinating modernism, which has become a classic, is for contemporary viewers.
