Schloss Achberg, Ravensburg:
"Käthe Kollwitz. MUT!"
still until June 29, 2025
Self-determined, non-conformist and courageous, Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945) defied the conventions of her time. In the midst of radical upheavals, wars and crises, she took a clear stand with her unsparing and touching art: for humanity and solidarity, against war and injustice. With a great flair for provocation and dramaturgy, she encouraged people to take a stand too.
Her forms of expression and themes are the great exception for an artist in her lifetime: in over 50 years of creative work, she produced numerous drawings, prints and sculptures. In terms of form and content, they concentrate on the essentials, are hauntingly touching and are timeless and deeply human in their pictorial themes: love, the intimate relationship between mother and child, self-reflection, but also the darker sides of life such as war, hardship and farewells to loved ones.
Schloss Achberg presents around 120 works from the unique Kollwitz collection of Ute Kahl and thus provides an insight not only into the many facets of the collection, but also into the courageous work and life of one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
