Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden:

The exhibition shows current works by Candida Höfer on the Semperoper Dresden. Each photograph represents a specific aspect of Höfer's photographic-artistic practice: the history of its creation, the organisation and technique of production, cultural and scientific-historical backgrounds, anthropological and geographical references.
All of Höfer's pictures are based on the visual-photographic production of space in the surface. In correspondence with works from the Kupferstich-Kabinett's collection, the aim is on the one hand to establish a connection to graphic representations of space in the surface and on the other hand to reflect on the place of the exhibition itself as an environment through a context-conscious presentation. Playing with contexts allows the image the openness of observation that characterises Höfer's works.
