Painting the World
Aug 25 – Oct 7, 2023
Gallery Ludorff Königsallee 22 Dusseldorf
On August 24, Ludorff Gallery will inaugurate the exhibition "Christopher Lehmpfuhl. Painting the World", which provides insights into the rich and exciting oeuvre of Christopher Lehmpfuhl through more than 50 selected works.
Colour and paint are essential to Christopher Lehmpfuhl’s art. His works fascinate us with their expressive colours and through the sculptural qualities of the oil paint that, in some places, is applied in layers several centimetres thick. The artist unlocks a pictorial cosmos whose tactile qualities offer a sensuous experience for beholders. Whether these are large-scale landscapes in the colours of the different seasons, views of cities emphasising their particular architecture through the impasto application of paint, or small pictures representing a detail view full of powerful colours, the artist who was born in 1972 knows how to mesmerize his audience.
The artist's work is in the tradition of plein air painting of German impressionists such as Max Slevogt or Max Liebermann. Under the open sky and directly in front of the motif, the former master student of Klaus Fußmann creates his color-heavy paintings and delicate watercolors. Far from romanticizing beauty, he seeks direct contact with the forces of nature.
The exhibition shows oil paintings and watercolors as well as prints. In addition to land- and cityscapes, the gallery is also presenting for the first time works from his Homage series, in which Christopher Lehmpfuhl explores the work of old masters such as Leonardo da Vinci or Rembrandt.
Christopher Lehmpfuhl's works can be found in numerous national and international collections and museums, including the ZKM and Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe, the Cologne City Museum, the Würth Collection and the collection of the German Bundestag in Berlin.
We cordially invite you and your friends to the exhibition opening on August 24, 2023 from 7 to 9 pm!
The exhibition will take place in our rooms on the 1st floor and the artist will be present.
