Katharina Grosse.
Installation for Art Basel 2025
Katharina Grosse has been commissioned to create a large-scale, site-specific installation for the Messeplatz project at Art Basel 2025.
Grosse is known for her immersive environments with explosive colors that she sprays directly onto architecture, interiors and landscapes. She will transform the Messeplatz and the surrounding architecture into a “vibrant, chromatic experience”, according to the artist. The work will be on display outside the exhibition hall and is part of a project on the artistic use of the exhibition space, which is being curated this year by Natalia Grabowska, Curator at Large for architecture and site-specific projects at the Serpentine Gallery in London.
The German artist studied at the Kunstakademie Münster and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Norbert Tadeusz and Gotthard Graubner. She was a professor at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee (2000-2010) and professor of painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (2010-2018). She has been a member of the Akademie der Künste (Berlin) since 2010.
