Schloss Achberg, Ravensburg:

"KARL HOFER"

April 11 - October 18, 2026

Karl Hofer (1878–1955) is considered one of the most original painters of German modernism. Between New Objectivity and Magic Realism, he developed a distinctive visual language.

The exhibition features over 60 paintings that showcase the key themes, aesthetic power, and underlying view of humanity in Hofer’s work, drawing on examples from all phases of his career. The exhibition on the 3rd floor of Achberg Castle is complemented by paintings by artists of the Halle School, which echo Hofer’s style, as well as works by Willi Baumeister. These works shed light on the reception of Hofer’s work between 1945 and 1955 in both East and West.
