Städtische Galerie Bietigheim-Bissingen:

"Reiche Ernte – Früchte in der Kunst des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts"

March 16 - June 16, 2024

Fruit is part of our daily routine. But they are also - or precisely because of this - a recurring motif in the visual arts over the centuries, an aesthetic pleasure not only because of their scent and taste, but also because of the variety of their shapes and colors. They are also significant for artists due to their symbolic charge: the apple, the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge in the biblical paradise, is perhaps the most frequently depicted type of fruit. "In the beginning was the apple" is the title of the art foundation of entrepreneur and scientist Prof. Dr. Rainer Wild, from whose private collection, amassed over more than 40 years, the works in the exhibition originate. Fruit pictures from classical modernism to the present day are presented in the media of painting, drawing, watercolor, graphics, sculpture and video from Alexej Jawlensky to Andy Warhol to Karin Kneffel - a feast for the eyes!
