Charles Camoin is born on 23 September in Marseille

He moves to Paris and studies in Gustave Moreau’s studio, where he meets Henri Matisse and Albert Marquet
1901
Whilst doing his military service, he meets Paul Cézanne, whose work has a lasting influence on him
1903
Camoin returns to Paris, visits Claude Monet in Giverny and begins to exhibit regularly at the major Parisian salons
1905
With his participation in the famous ‘Salon d’Automne’, he is counted amongst the founders of Fauvism
1908
His first solo exhibition at the Galerie Kahnweiler brings him international recognition
1914
Shortly before the First World War, Camoin destroys a large proportion of his early paintings and is subsequently called up for military service
1920
He marries Charlotte ‘Lola’ Prost and works regularly in Paris and Saint-Tropez
1947
Camoin was awarded the Cross of the Legion of Honour
1955
He received the Grand Prix at the Menton Biennale and was appointed an Officer of the Legion of Honour
1965
Charles Camoin died on Mai 20 in his atelier in Paris
