1941

Born on January 17 in Hilden near Düsseldorf

1960

Studied painting at the art school in Linz (Austria)

1968

Began working with conceptual photography – using everyday images, series, and notebooks

1970

First artist's books and picture series, renouncing signatures and limiting his works Use of found material: passport photos, magazine clippings, vacation pictures

1974

Founded the publishing house Drei Möwen – began his own publishing activities

1980

Runs his own shop in Düsseldorf with a collection of art, kitsch, and everyday objects

1990

Returns to the art world with the same conceptual strategies Co-founds the magazines Ohio, Photographie wie noch nie, and cahiers d’images

1998

Founded Feldmann Verlag publishing house

2010

Awarded the Hugo Boss Prize by the Guggenheim Museum, New York

2011
