Gaul begins a sculpture apprenticeship

Studies Art History and German Studies at the University of Cologne

1950-1953

Studied under Willi Baumeister and Manfred Henninger at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart

1955

Becomes a member of “Gruppe 53”

1956

First solo exhibition at Galerie Wolfgang Gurlitt in Munich

1957

First solo exhibition in Dusseldorf at “Galerie 22”

1958

Art Prize of Kulturkreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft

1959

Participation in documenta II, Kassel

Solo exhibition at Robert Elkon Gallery, New York
