Apprenticeship as stage painter

Began his studies at the School of Applied Arts in Dresden

Study at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts

Academy-graduation was honored with the Saxony State Price. Joined the artist group “Die Brücke” as only academic member

1908

Relocation to Berlin

Co-founder of the “Neue Berliner Sezession”

1912

Design of the mural paintings for Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s “Villa Perls”

1914

Journey to Palau with his wife Charlotte Kaprolat where many watercolors and drawings were produced

1915/16

Military service at the Western front near Somme/Flanders

1922

Admission to the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin

1927

Pechstein was awarded the Garden Club Prize by the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh/USA for his painting “Calla”

1928

Prussian state prize for his painting “Nordweststurm”

1937

A total of 326 of his paintings was seized by the Nazis

1945

Large sections of his studio were destroyed by bomb attacks

1951

Honorary senator of the Berlin Academy of Arts

Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany

Pechstein died June 29, 1955 in Berlin
