Born in Dessau as Klaus Wolf Knoebel

1962 – 1964

Attendance of the Werkkunstschule Darmstadt together with his friend Imi (Rainer) Giese

1964

Change to the Düsseldorf Art Academy together with Imi Giese in the class of Joseph Beuys

1966 – 1969

Knoebel and Giese use the pseudonym "Imi + Imi" and are provided with their own studio “Raum 19” (room 19) by Beuys at the academy, at times also used by Jörg Immendorff and Blinky Palermo
