Ulrich Erben

1940, Dusseldorflives & works in Dusseldorf & Italy

Ulrich Erben is an important colour field painter and representative of New Concrete Art. He participated in Documenta VI in Kassel in 1976 and, after studying art in Hamburg, Berlin and Italy, was a professor at the Münster Art Academy from 1980-2005. His work focuses on the theme of colour and light, their perception and influence on each other - within the work of art and in interaction with its surroundings. His geometric or amorphous colour fields, sometimes applied in several layers of paint and using different techniques, have a compelling sensuality that captivates viewers and sharpens their perception.
